March 2000 "Ready Mind for the Right Job" by Tom Kertes Ready or not, your college years are fast approaching an end. You are about to enter the real-world arena, looking for a real job. And the truth is, you're not quite ready. Perhaps you are not aware of your strengths and weaknesses relative to the job market. Or, perhaps, you just simply don't yet know what it is exactly that you want to do with the rest of your life as far as a career is concerned. If any of the above applies to youand research shows it does to
80-90 percent of today's college populationReadyMinds.com may be
just for you. "We are not here to replace on-campus career services," Mr. Miller adds. "We, on the other hand, start with students early to help them find the direction needed toward finding a real world career they would enjoy and be good at. And then we help the students find the jobs that will allow them to be happy and fulfilled for the rest of their lives." Sounds like a dream come true, right? Well, Ready and Motivated Minds, Inc. and ReadyMinds.com are the fulfillment of a dream for Mr. Miller. "I was an extremely motivated student in college" [University of Rhode Island], he says. "And I still had to go through the complicated process of figuring out what I wanted to do with my life. But I was extremely entrepreneurial and I knew I wanted to help young people with their education and their lives. So, I guess you could say that I've been pointing in the direction of creating Ready Minds for 10-12 years." In order to make his dream a reality, Mr. Miller studied the collegiate industry and recruited some of the top experts in the country in counseling, education, business, and human resources over the course of the past eight years. Prior to starting ReadyMinds.com, he served as vice president of San Moire, a multi-million dollar manufacturing company he founded in 1989. Mr. Miller, who lectures widely on college campuses about finding the right careers, has also established the Milton J. Feldman Foundationin honor of his grandfatherto provide scholarships and other means of support to students. "He was my first and most important mentor," he says. "Without him, none of this would have ever happened." ReadyMinds, currently specializing in helping college students, aims
to soon expand to the high school, graduate, and universal (adult) levels
as well. "Our motto is 'Making Education Work'" Mr. Miller
concludes. "And that's for everybody."
