May 2000
Press Release
"ReadyMinds.com and Visa's RankIt.com Announce Exclusive Marketing Partnership"

One-on-one career-counseling site and student-focused site to engage in joint promotions over one-year agreement.

New York, May 1, 2000: ReadyMinds.com, the Web's first and only one-on-one student career counseling service, and VISA, the world's leading payment brand, today announced a new one-year strategic alliance in which the two companies will work together on student marketing initiatives. These initiatives include cooperative marketing, brand promotion, and special offers and promotions.

"We're excited that Visa wanted to partner with ReadyMinds early in the process of building our online business," said Randy Miller, founder and CEO of ReadyMinds.com. "Their participation will allow us to provide even more unique programs and services to college students, and Visa's brand power will help us reach students through their targeted website, RankIt.com."

Mr. Miller founded ReadyMinds in 1997 to improve the way college students think about their individual and career growth. The site's mission is to transform the way college students prepare for, select, and manage their careers in order to achieve greater personal fulfillment and career success. ReadyMinds is the only service of its kind in which students work exclusively with National Certified Counselors.

Visa created RankIt.com in 1997 to be an informative website for and about America's college students. "Visa is very selective in choosing its partners," said David Harberson, vice president, Marketing Services, Visa USA. "ReadyMinds offers college students an exceptionally beneficial service, helping them launch their careers on the right foot, and this is something we'd like to offer our RankIt users."

The new alliance between ReadyMinds and Visa USA is scheduled to involve:

  • Preferred Positioning — ReadyMinds has designated Visa as its preferred method of payment and is giving students 15% off the ReadyMinds joining fee if they pay with their Visa card. Visa has also designated ReadyMinds as its sole career-counseling resource for users of its RankIt student site.

  • Co-branding Products — A ReadyMinds-Visa co-branded credit card is due to be offered to ReadyMinds members during the year.

  • Cooperative Event Promotion — ReadyMinds and Visa USA will work together to identify opportunities within the college market such as festivities for spring break, orientation, Greek weeks, intramural events, bookstore events, concerts, and sports events.
