July 2002 The book, scheduled to be published by March 2002, will focus on "updating professionals involved in the practice of technology-assisted distance counseling, commonly referred to as cybercounseling. Technology assistance in the form of computer-assisted assessment, computer-assisted information systems, and telephone counseling are just a few of the manifestations of this phenomenon, however the rapid development and use of the Internet to deliver information and foster communication has resulted in the creation of even newer forms of counseling. Cyberlearning involves the exploration of how college instructors can use technology to assist in the teaching of graduate courses in counselor education," says John Bloom The ReadyMinds chapter addresses the rationale for and historical development of the ReadyMinds Distance Career Counseling Model. The ReadyMinds Program seeks to counsel and motivate individuals to make meaningful and effective career/educational choices. ReadyMinds collaborates with and adds value to college and university Offices of Career Services. In all of its practices and services ReadyMinds follows the National Board For Certified Counselors Standards for the Ethical Practice of WebCounseling in addition to its own rigorous Ethical Guidelines. "The ReadyMinds chapter also addresses the issues which face distance career practitioners in providing cutting edge career counseling services along with the tasks and challenges inherent in the training and supervision of distance career counselors. Specific attention is directed to how research informs practice in a systematic distance career counseling program," says Randy Miller. ReadyMinds career counseling services are delivered and supported by experienced professionals who hold National Counselor Certification. While this program is structured, it is also flexibly client-centered and addresses individuals' career readiness as they manage their own career development. The ReadyMinds Program focuses on the continuous and recursive nature of the career development process which includes: assessment, exploration, decision-making and self-marketing. "The ReadyMinds chapter also describes the continuous development of a wide variety of proprietary career counseling products and services appropriate to the technology associated with distance career counseling. The chapter covers evaluative information reflecting the effectiveness of distance career counseling, counselor training and supervision as practiced in the ReadyMinds model," says James Malone. ReadyMinds is a privately held company based in New York City. ReadyMinds abides by the guidelines set forth by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC); the NBCC Code of Ethics and the Standards for the Ethical Practice of WebCounseling.
