Representatives from State Counseling Boards from across the country attended the conference and most had the opportunity to meet with Randy Miller, CEO of ReadyMinds at the welcome reception, sponsored by ReadyMinds. The welcome reception, along with informal exchanges conducted throughout the conference, allowed opportunity for a productive exchange of information between the State Counseling Board representatives and Mr. Miller. The Board Members had the chance to express their thoughts, questions, and potential needs as it related to the rapidly emerging area of distance counseling. Randy was able to share what ReadyMinds has accomplished during the past year under the new distance credentialing area (DCC). The AASCB represented ReadyMinds accomplishments in the distance counseling area by providing the following information to conference attendees. Click Here About AASCB: A BRIEF HISTORY The American Association of State Counseling Boards grew out of a committee that met at the AACD (now ACA) Convention in Los Angeles in 1986. Willie Jackson, then the AACD Licensure Chairperson, realizing the need for coordination between states with licensure laws, was instrumental in getting the committee started. Ted Remly, Susan Sears, and Kitty Altman were named members of this group. They were charged with developing plans for the implementation of an association of Licensure boards. Representatives from several states with credentialing laws met and formed AASCB in the fall of 1986. Delegates from credentialing boards were seated, a set of bylaws was adopted, and officers were elected.. AASCB remains dedicated to a continuing and open relationship with organizations and entities representing counselors who are regulated by its member boards. AASCB is an association of bodies which are legally responsible for the registration, certification, or licensing of counselors within their jurisdictions in the United States of America. The organization is dedicated to the concept that individuals who have demonstrated competence to render counseling services are entitled to be licensed, certified or registered as counselors by its member boards. http://www.aascb.org About ReadyMinds Founded in 1997, ReadyMinds owns and operates readyminds.com and is a privately held company that has emerged as the leading global provider of distance career counseling and training services.
